The ponies on Lojstahed, an indigenous breed

Visit the ponies and all the exciting things on the moor.
The ponies on Lojstahed have been free since time immemorial. Through natural selection only the most suitable horses has survived which has made the ponies to a very resistant breed. The Gotland pony can in many ways be compared with the forest’s wild animals. During summer time the herd is about 80 ponies and during the winter, about 50.
The purpose with Lojstahed is to preserve the Gotland pony in its original environment. Lojstahed is Swedens only sanctuarie for ponies and the preservation of the herd is therefore a national concern. You can still to this day have a glimpse of the old Swedish horse breeding up until the 1700s.
The broodmares with their foals and the young horses, especially in the southern and central parts of our country, had to feed themselves throughout the year in the forest. Only stallions and riding and driving horses were in stables.
During the tour the guide tells about the ponies living on the moor, ranging from incentive to move between paddocks.
There are also other natural values such as frogs, flowers ... ..
